ENGINEERING/TECHNOLOGY AND PHARMACY IN WEST BENGAL.

Admission through Lateral Entry to the 2
year (3 semester level) of the undergraduate degree courses (except in
Architecture) offered by Government/Private Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy Colleges/Universities of the State of
West Bengal during the academic session 2008-09 is open to candidates who either (i) have passed diploma course in
Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy or have passed Degree in Science (B.Sc.) with Mathematics as a subject OR (ii)
have passed the previous semesters and due to appear in the final examination – 2008 of the Diploma Courses in
Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy or due to appear in the final examination of Degree in Science (B.Sc.) with
Mathematics from any recognized Institute/University of the country. Any diploma holder with 60% marks from
AICTE approved Institution OR Degree in Science (B.Sc.) from UGC approved University with Mathematic (not
applicable for Pharmacy) scoring at least 60% marks in the relevant disciplines will be eligible for admission to degree
courses based on the merit position in the JELET-2008 conducted by the “West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations

Board” to be held on Sunday, the 22
June, 2008.
However, admission to Universities shall be governed by the University rules and regulations.
The said examination of two hour duration will be conducted with M.C.Q. type of questions. Candidates will be
required to answer 100 (hundred) questions each carrying 1 (one) mark. There will be negative mark
for wrong
answer.
Centres of examination will be selected based on the number of candidates from that area.
SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION :
a) For all branches of Engineering/Technology – except Pharmacy :
i) For diploma holders in Engineering & Technology :
There will be one question paper. Syllabus will be provided along with application form. The syllabus will be based
on prescribed diploma courses of WBSCTE on the following 6 (six) subjects :
(1) Engineering, Mathematics (2) Electrical Technology (3) Computer Application (4) Environmental Engineering (5)
Engineering Mechanics / Basic Engineering (for Printing) (6) Strength of Materials / Printers’ Material Science for
Engineering / Technology (for printing).
ii) For B.Sc. with Mathematics :
A separate question paper on Mathematics will be set based on B.Sc. Math – Pass course syllabus of Calcutta
University.
b) For Pharmacy course :
A separate question paper will be set from the diploma level syllabus in Pharmacy prescribed by Pharmacy Council of India.
No separate syllabus will be provided with the application FORM.

Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy tentatively. However, seats may increase based on drop-out vacancy in 1
AGE LIMIT : There is no age restriction for diploma holders of Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy. For B.Sc. candidates
upper age limit is 27 years as on 31.12.2008.
RESERVATION POLICY : For Government and Government aided Engineering & Technology Colleges reservation policy
of the State Government shall be followed. For University/University Departments : Reservation rule of the concerned
University shall be followed.
APPLICATION : Candidates intending to appear in the JELET-2008 shall have to apply in a prescribed FORM which will be
available from 09.05.2008 to 28.05.2008
from the following Branches of UNITED BANK OF INDIA : In Kolkata &
Howrah – Behala, Jadavpur, Dunlop, Sealdah and B.E. College Extn. Counter and Outside Kolkata – Agartala (Tripura),
Asansol, Balurghat, Burdwan (Station Rd.), Berhampore, Bishnupur, Chinsurah, Coochbehar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri,
Krishnagar, Malda, Midnapore, Naihati, Purulia, Siliguri, Suri and Tamluk on all working days (except Holidays and
Sundays) on payment of Rs. 350.00 (Rupees three hundred fifty) only in CASH. Application FORM once purchased can not
be returned or replaced.
The FORMS and details may also be obtained by Post from the Office of the BOARD ONLY through Postal request by
sending a Demand Draft of Rs. 350/- (three hundred fifty) only in favour of

payable at KOLKATA/HOWRAH along with a self-addressed envelope (26 cm x 13 cm) affixing
EXAMINATIONS BOARD’
postal stamp of Rs. 50/- as to reach the office of the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board, AQ-13/1, Sector – V,
Salt Lake City, Kolkata – 700 091 on or before 16.05. 2008.
SUBMISSION : The duly filled in application form has to be sent by SPEED POST only so as to reach on or before
30.05.2008 at the Board Office located at AQ-13/1, Sector-V, Salt Lake City, Kolkata – 700 091. (Board’s website :
